How to say "China" in Chinese

Zhong1 = center
guo2 = country

China means center country because at one time, Chinese people thought that their country was the center of the world. Don't be too harsh toward the Chinese people, though. Pretty much every country, at one time or another, believed that they were the center of the world (and some still do!)
