How to say "Cheers!" in Chinese

Gan1 bei1

Gan1 = dry
bei1 = cup or glass

Cheers! in Chinese actually means "Drain your glass." At one point in time, people in China actually expected you to drain your glass as quickly as you could. But nowadays, the Chinese Cheers! doesn't require you to drink it all in one gulp!

Another common drinking expression is "Yi1 kou3 men1" (Bottoms up.) Be sure to download the FREE "Simple Toasts" .mp3 Lesson to learn more drinking expressions!
